Survival Of The Fittest

Whenever I get a package of plain M&Ms, I make it my duty to continue the strength and robustness of the candy as a species. To this end, I hold M&M duels.

Taking two candies between my thumb and forefinger, I apply pressure, squeezing them together until one of them cracks and splinters. That is the “loser,” and I eat the inferior one immediately. The winner gets to go another round.

I have found that, in general, the brown and red M&Ms are tougher, and the newer blue ones are genetically inferior. I have hypothesized that the blue M&Ms as a race cannot survive long in the intense theater of competition that is the modern candy and snack-food world.

Occasionally I will get a mutation, a candy that is misshapen, or pointier, or flatter than the rest. Almost invariably this proves to be a weakness, but on very rare occasions it gives the candy extra strength. In this way, the species continues to adapt to its environment.

When I reach the end of the pack, I am left with one M&M, the strongest of the herd. Since it would make no sense to eat this one as well, I pack it neatly in an envelope and send it to M&M Mars, A Division of Mars, Inc., Hackettstown, NJ 17840-1503 U.S.A., along with a 3×5 card reading, “Please use this M&M for breeding purposes.”

This week they wrote back to thank me, and sent me a coupon for a free 1/2 pound bag of plain M&Ms. I consider this “grant money.” I have set aside the weekend for a grand tournament. From a field of hundreds, we will discover the True Champion.

Crowley outlines 4 simple stages that lead to your ‘own personal’ HGA: the magickal journal, yoga, the magickal intellect and devotion. No one else I’ve read makes the path so amazingly clear and obvious. Just do the frickin work and quit wandering down the maze of WHY.

In my researches with the Bagua ‘circle walking’, each direction is reservoir of energy to be tapped by use of the ‘palm changes’ to activate acupuncture meridians. In “circle walking’” the energys are gathered, balanced and stored in the circles’ center and gives the ‘magician’ a sense of being at the axis of an upright swirling cone of chi with a very low and stabilizing center of gravity.

In 1997 a friend and I visited some 500 yr old trees that the US Forest service had sold for harvest. We established connecting, self sufficient tree houses about 200 feet up and taught kids to climb up and occupy them. This move was viewed as fascist by the local activist community because we didn’t rely on a large group consensus. The trees are now protected as well as the forest around them. It took 5 years but we also rewrote the book on the way ancient forests are managed.
For my friend and I this was a single, simple act of the magickal will. Our will aligned with that of the forest.

The SEVEN SPIRITS

Earth, ocean, air, night, mountains, winds, thy star,
Are at thy beck and bidding, Child of Clay!

In my practice of Zazen, I identify all ‘external’ and ‘internal’ processes and events as occurring within the ‘clear mind’, conditioned and contained by my clarity of consciousness.
“Kinhin” or walking meditation helps me arrive at a state of mild absorption with the least effort, and in a prolonged state of absorption ‘flashes’ begin to occur. Kind of like brief mild epileptic white-outs that heighten clarity and deepen absorption.
Subect/Object fall away as all external stimulus is sensed as subjective and the ‘world’ becomes your body. It feels like being tied to a lead corpse being compressed by tremendous force. Passing beyond this state I start to experience what I call the ‘house of cards’ universe, where I begin to sense every experience as depending or leaning on every other condition (dharma means prop), as I can only sense a self through the use of an ego. As the conditions supporting ego fall away all action is realized as futile including the conditions surronding ‘love’, but you will also realize that as ‘it’s the only game in town’ you can either (A) pass into nirvana or (B) slowly re-construct your ’self’ again. I took me 3 hours to get to this state and about 3 or 4 days to get ‘right’ or re-constructed again.

After experiences like the one above, I’ve resigned myself to ‘formless’ systems of Magick. Concensus reality runs along the path of least resistience and that path leads to a Quantum understanding of reality. Practices that unify both brains in the Dharmakaya are deeply evolved in eastern thought. Western systems fall far short.
